The Swans have finally got a win at home, the first since beating struggling Villa 1 – 0 on boxing day. The fans could celebrate even more knowing that Swansea are the first team this season to ‘do the double’ over Louis Van Gaal’s team.
Man Utd went ahead after 28 minutes thanks to Herrera but this was a short lived lead as Ki Sung-Yueng put Jonjo Shevley’s cross in the back of the net and made it level only 2 minutes later. Shevley’s shot was deflected by Gomis in the 73rd minute putting the Swans ahead and sealing their win.
Despite dominating the second half Man Utd failed to score and Swansea kept all three points. Man United have only managed to take all three points from one in their last six games. Swansea’s position remains unchanged in the table but United drop to fourth behind Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal.
Adding further to the pain was the late injury Robin Van Persie incurred to his right ankle, causing him to leave the Liberty Stadium on crutches.
Swansea face Burnley at Turf Moor next weekend; the struggling Clarets need every point they can get if they want to move out of the drop zone.
