Corey O’Keeffe joined Barnsley in July 2023 from Forest Green after spending a year with the struggling Green Army who faced relegation to league two at the end of the season.
This year was a different fight for Corey as Barnsley throughout the season have been fighting for promotion.
O’Keeffe, despite not being fully fit, featured in their opening game which ended a 7 – 0 win over Port Vale. Corey has gone on to play in 45 matches, made 6 assists and score three goals as well as bagging goal of the month in January 2024. Notably the seven games Corey was not in the squad Barnsley only managed 7 out of a possible 21 points and lost three of those matches.
Ending the season on a respectable 76 points they finished in sixth position and qualified for the play offs against a strong third place Bolton.
Barnsley were hit hard in the first game losing at home 1 – 3 to Bolton, but the second leg saw the fight we have seen so many times this season from the Tykes. The second leg ended in 2 – 3 to Barnsley but they lost on aggregate 5 – 4.
This is the second year Barnsley have reached the play offs and with the tenacity this club shows it would be highly likely to see a promotion fight again next season.
We wish Barnsley all the best next season and hope it’s third time lucky for the Tykes!
