FA Cup Third Round

9 January 2017

The FA Cup third round was opened by Man City ending West Ham’s Cup run. The Hammers were beaten by 5 goals on home turf and again they lacked cutting edge and were disorganised at the back, meanwhile City had pace, power and precision. Aguero found the back of the net for City putting him in the top three goal scorers for the Premiership this season.

Saturdays games saw Premiership Club West Brom beaten by Championship club Derby County. West Brom’s Phillips opened the scoreline and at half time the home team had the advantage, but the Rams came out fighting and goals from Bent and Ince put them through to the next round.

Preston played impressive football against the Gunners and certainly made it hard work for Wenger’s men. The Lillywhites had outstanding performances from midfielders Daniel Johnson and Ben Pearson but the Gunners sealed the next round with a goal in the 90th minute from Giroud who is enjoying an excellent run of form.

Man United enjoyed a 4-0 win over Reading and Leicester City are through after beating Everton.

Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw against League two side Plymouth Argyle. Klopp made ten changes to his starting XI and played a team with an average age of 21 leading to a goalless draw and a replay at Home Park. Man of the match went to the Pilgrims defender, Sonny Bradley, who made 14 clearances and 4 blocks.

Premiership Leaders Chelsea made 9 changes to their starting XI and beat Peterborough by 4-1 but ended with only ten men after Terry who was playing his 50th FA Cup game saw red in the 68th minute.
