VILLA EARN FA CUP PLACE

20 April 2015

Despite Villa’s early Premiership struggles this season Tim Sherwood’s team have made it to the FA Cup final after a superb performance against Liverpool at Wembley. Villa came from behind beating Liverpool 2 – 1 with a strong and confident performance.

Villa were temporarily unsettled when Nathan Baker was forced to be substituted due to injury, being replaced by Danish international Jores Okore in the 26th minute. Liverpool managed to get ahead with a goal from Coutinho, but their lead only lasted 6 minutes and Villa’s desire, quality and composure took them into the final with a second goal in the 54th minute.

Amongst the outstanding performances was teenage midfielder Jack Grealish who assisted the winning goal scored by Delph. Grealish made his first Premier League start only 12 days ago and impressed the Wembley crowd.

Since Sherwood took over from Lambert in February he has been moving Villa towards safety in the Premier League and has earned a place in the FA Cup final.

Villa, who have not reached an FA Cup final since 2000 when they lost to Chelsea, will deservedly make a trip back to Wembley to face current Cup holders Arsenal on the 30th May.
